LG Spirit 4G brings high-level features to MetroPCS for only $199 with no contract

MetroPCS is pushing the boundaries of the type of smartphone people expect to find on the budget carrier, especially when one considers that the newly announced LG Spirit 4G Android smartphone costs only $199. The LG Spirit features a 4.5-inch touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, and a 2,150 mAh battery. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, a 5 megapixel rear camera that records 1080p HD video, and the LG user interface tweaks that enable taking photos with voice commands.
While these are not on par with the hero devices introduced in recent months, they are on par with what was considered a high-end Android phone just last year, and it's managing to do it for considerably less than expected. Not everything is high-end, however. The LG Spirit runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with LG's Optimus UI.
MetroPCS is now selling the LG Spirit 4G for $199 after a $70 mail-in rebate. The phone can be paired with a no-contract MetroPCS plan and gain access to the company's 4G LTE network (in places where it is available) and the joy messaging app for chat and video calls.
