A 50 per cent surge on 2012.
New data from Juniper Research shows that special offer coupons tailored for mobiles and tablets are going to have a bumper year, with redemption doubling 2012 to hit ten billion across the next 12 months. The prediction has been made based on the way bricks-and-mortar retailers are looking to drive footfall and spend in stores, as well as brand loyalty.
The number of mobile coupons account for a low volume of overall coupons issues, but have a ten per cent redemption rate compared to the one per cent of print and PC coupons.
There's good news for Apple too, as Passbook is expected to kick-start the deployment and adoption of mobile coupons. Some retailers, however, are causing a bottleneck situation by refusing to upgrade and make Point of Sale (POS) systems compatible.
Dr Windsor Holden, report author, Juniper Research, said: "While we’ve heard that online retail is killing the High Street – witness United Retail filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US and the recent administrations of Jessop’s and Blockbuster in the UK – mobile offers a means of engaging with the consumer at every point in the retail lifecycle, from product discovery to product purchase."
