Shoppers to redeem 10bn mobile coupons in 2013

A 50 per cent surge on 2012.
Shoppers to redeem 10bn mobile coupons in 2013New data from Juniper Research shows that special offer coupons tailored for mobiles and tablets are going to have a bumper year, with redemption doubling 2012 to hit ten billion across the next 12 months. The prediction has been made based on the way bricks-and-mortar retailers are looking to drive footfall and spend in stores, as well as brand loyalty.
The number of mobile coupons account for a low volume of overall coupons issues, but have a ten per cent redemption rate compared to the one per cent of print and PC coupons.
There's good news for Apple too, as Passbook is expected to kick-start the deployment and adoption of mobile coupons. Some retailers, however, are causing a bottleneck situation by refusing to upgrade and make Point of Sale (POS) systems compatible.
Dr Windsor Holden, report author, Juniper Research, said: "While we’ve heard that online retail is killing the High Street – witness United Retail filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US and the recent administrations of Jessop’s and Blockbuster in the UK – mobile offers a means of engaging with the consumer at every point in the retail lifecycle, from product discovery to product purchase."
