Microsoft CEO Talks Down Dropbox, Office for iPad

Steve Ballmer looks crazyBy all accounts, Microsoft is struggling to become a player in the tablet market, and few need hard data to prove it -- but that doesn't mean the company is going to bring its golden goose to the iPad anytime soon.

BloombergBusinessweek published a quick interview with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer this week in the wake of the Office 2013 launch, and as usual, the outspoken executive has plenty to say about the competition as well.

Addressing the issue of SkyDrive being late to the cloud storage game, Ballmer took aim at Dropbox, calling it "a fine little startup" despite having 100 million users, which the CEO called "a pretty small number to me, actually."

That may be true compared to the one billion customers using Microsoft Office, a number which many believe may be hard for the company to grow much larger -- although a version for the iPad could certainly help.

"I have nothing to say on that topic," Ballmer responded. "We’re very glad with the product, very happy with the product that we’re putting in market. It makes sense on the devices like the Mac and the PC.

"We have a product that we think makes a lot of sense," the CEO concluded. "We do have a way for people always to get to Office through the browser, which is very important. And we’ll see what we see in the future."
