Twitter launches Vine 6 second video sharing service

In keeping with the brevity you have become used to with Twitter, they have now launched a new Social Network which allows users to embed 6 seconds of video into their tweets.
Twitter purchased Vine Labs startup last year, and Dick Costolo, the Twitter boss, was the first to use the service by posting a clip of himself making steak tartare.  We are pretty impressed by this concept, and with the popularity of video on mobile phones, this will be perfectly placed to take full advantage.
Unlike normal videos posted on Vine, the videos are automatically loops, in a similar way to animated gifs, which have been used in that way since the earliest days of the internet.
Posting on the Vine Blog, they state:
Posts on Vine are about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special.
You don’t need a Twitter account to use Vine, however, if you do have one it is a little quicker.  The Vine app is available only on the Apple App Store at the present time, and can be downloaded here.  We can imagine that it is only a matter of time before apps for other platforms are released.
